SMP Al Hikmah Social Studies Teacher Emphasizes Importance of Values in National Development

Surabaya, 14 May 2024 - Usth. Sukestik, S.Sos., SMP Al Hikmah social teacher as an Tahfidz Classroom Teacher, highlighted the crucial role of human behavior in national development during a recent talk. As we know, Al Hikmah Surabaya Middle School has a superior program for improving educator competency, namely TeTalk, which is an abbreviation for Teacher Talk.

Addressing the age or natural resource abundance of a nation, Usth. Sukestik pointed out that developed countries like Canada and Australia, established just 150 years ago, stand in stark contrast to older nations like India and Egypt, still classified as developing.

"The key differentiator lies not in age or resources," Usth. Sukestik asserted, "but in the ingrained values and behavior of its citizens."

Beyond Resources: The Power of Positive Values

Usth. Sukestik presented compelling examples of developed nations like Japan, thriving with limited land and resources, and Switzerland, renowned for its chocolate and dairy products despite geographical constraints.

These examples, he argued, showcase the power of human behavior shaped by a culture of integrity, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.

Indonesia's Potential: Unlocking Prosperity Through Values

Indonesia, Usth. Sukestik's homeland, was presented as a case study. Despite being blessed with abundant natural resources, the nation's high foreign debt and dependence on imports were highlighted.

Usth. Sukestik emphasized, "This disparity points not to a lack of resources, but a lack of widespread adherence to fundamental principles like ethical conduct, respect for law and order, and a commitment to productivity."

Building a Brighter Future: The Role of Education and Culture

The alumnus proposed a solution – investing in education and cultural development.

"By instilling positive values such as responsibility, discipline, and respect for differences in our children and students," Usth. Sukestik stated, "we can cultivate a generation empowered to propel Indonesia towards a more prosperous and advanced future."

Usth. Sukestik's message, combining Islamic values with a focus on national development, resonated with the audience, prompting discussions on the importance of fostering a culture of integrity and positive work ethic within Indonesian society.
